Gears are undoubtedly the prime reason behind the smooth functioning of a machine. However, it does not imply that all are compatible with every type of machine. There is an extensive range of machines and so is the extensivity of the types of industry. So it is essential for the owner of the machines to have a working knowledge about the types, advantages, and applications of the different types of Industrial gears. This article discusses all of it in a nutshell.

An Industrial Gear is a tooth-shaped part of a machinery which rotates by applying force to the teeth of other component of a machinery, giving out mechanical advantages. Its main role in a machine is to transmit the motion, adjust the direction of rotation, and alter a machine’s speed.

They are set according to the speed they generate. Meshing of the teeth of the gears imply that the circumferences are moving at the same rate of the force applied. As the rotational speed is directly proportional to the circumferential speed of a wheel divided by its radius, the larger the gear’s radius, the lesser will be its rotational speed on being meshed with a gear of the given speed and size.

Now let us have a look at a few types of Industrial Gears:

Spur: It is the most commonly used type of gears. It looks like a cylinder. Its teeth are set in a way which ensures that the teeth are aligned parallel to the rotation axis. When fitted to the parallel axles,it renders optimum performance.

Helical: The placement of the helical gears is the exact opposite to that of the spur gears. It is set at an angle and run more smoothly than the spur gear.

Double Helical: These gears provide the same smoothness like the Helical Gears but with greater strength in the teeth’s motion. Their another unique feature is that they do not move force side ways.

Bevel: They are mainly used for the shafts. These gears are used in many machine tools’ drive and motor cars’ rear axle.

Worm Gear: Such types of gears are majorly used for motor vehicles’ wheel gear. Worm are single or multi-start threaded and drive two shafts together to give more efficiency than any other types of gears.

A few industry where the importance of Industrial Gears is beyond imagination:

Sugar Mills

However, to ensure that the advantages of the Industrial Gears like optimizing the performance of machines, increasing a machine’s productivity, etc., are leveraged, you select gears manufactured by an experienced and reputed industrial gear manufacturer.
